Hotel scoops prestige award

A Clitheroe hotel has won a prestigious award. The Inn at Whitewell has scooped the Conde Nast Johansens Most Traditional Inn Award for 2006.

The accolade is based on responses from guest nomination forms, survey reports, and regional inspector reports drawn from the hotels featured in their most recent guides.

And the 14th century East Lancashire inn beat off strong competition from across the country to pick up the award at the presentation ceremony in Knightsbridge, London.

Manager Mark Fletcher said: "It's obviously great for us and we're happy to have even been nominated in the first place".

Now in its 24th year the 2006 Conde Nast Johansens Guides are the most inclusive hotel guides in terms of the number of properties who have passed the rigorous standards set by the team of dedicated inspectors with almost 1,500 addresses recommended across all four guides.

Mark O’Neil regional inspector for Conde Nast Johansens said: "The Inn at Whitewell is friendly and luxurious bedrooms are filled with antiques, and restaurant features delicious English country fare."
