Clitheroe Advertiser / Gardeners’ World – August 2008 Picture perfect inn is the tops
A picture perfect pub garden in the Ribble Valley has come out on top in a poll by BBC Gardeners’ World magazine.
The popular monthly magazine set out to find 10 pubs across the UK with beautiful gardens where customers could enjoy a relaxing drink outdoors.
Sitting proudly in the number one spot is The Inn at Whitewell, the acclaimed and idyllic country pub which has,
in the past, counted Her Majesty the Queen and other members of the Royal Family among its patrons.
The magazine says of the Inn at Whitewell: “Sitting just above the River Hodder, this former deerkeeper’s lodge has
sweeping views across parkland to rising fells in the distance and down the valley into the Forest of Bowland.
“The riverside garden is the perfect place for relaxing, with raised beds and containers planted in a soothing palette of silver, grey and green
“Local gardens include Gawthorpe Hall and Browsholme Hall, while Holden Clough Nursery is a real treasure trove.”
